Default 462624 Chevy head question

Does anyone have knowledge about the differences in 462624 small block Chevy cylinder heads? I know that for the most part, they are light weight castings (scalloped along the lower edge) and can be somewhat prone to cracking. There seems to be, however, multiple versions of the same head, all with the same casting number. Some are scalloped and some are not. Some have different markings on the ends than others. Some are found on GM crate motors made in Mexico and there is also a marine version. Which ones are preferred and how can they most easily be identified?
