Default ? About Wheel Spacers

What is the maximum acceptable (for safety) thickness and material for drive wheel spacers in your opinion or experience?

My application is a street/strip 68 camaro, has 8 inch weld wheels, 12 bolt rear with studs. Engine is roughly 400 hp sbc, glide, 4.10 gears. I have a slight tire rub in the innermost part of the factory wheelhouse, only rubs when going over bumps.

Any advice and info is appreciated.
