Driveshaft broke and took case with it. I’m told the 4WD cases are stronger. Are 2WD and 4WD cases interchangeable? How can you tell the difference? Basically I’m wanting to find a case and hopefully it didn’t damage too much inside. So internals can just be swapped. And I can keep it as a spare

I figured it took the case out also. YEARS ago at the IHRA points race in Norwalk my C4 bound up and took the top of the case off.. Good times

The 4WD case accepts a cast aluminum dust cover and is a bit stronger in that area but the bellhousing area isn't much stronger. Any time you lose a driveshaft, you can almost guarantee the case is going to be cracked. Stronger alternative is a JW or ATI bellhousing, or ATI case with bellhousing. Internally as long as it's an early, non lock-up TH-350 and not a TH-250, which includes an external adjuster for an intermediate band, cases and internal parts are fully interchangeable. Also 6", 9", or 12" tailhousings with the appropriate output shaft.
