I just returned from the Maple Grove Nat'ls yesterday. I was entered and raced....

As it has been for a few years, there was NO tech before we ran and I saw NO spot checks in the lanes. Nothing....

I also saw no fuel and weight check for Stock and SS but I may have missed that if they did it.

One Stocker did have to pull a head and it was for going more than 1.2 under....he passed and gets HP.....

At Division races they always inspect cars before you get to race but its generally a routine lookover and check of safety items.

I know of one 428 CJ intake manifold that weighs 10 lbs less than a stock one. Its one reason I quit working and I only race bracket races myself close to home and BS on this site as long as Ken will let me. Its not worth it to race stock today to me plus the contingencies are way less than the early 1970's . You guys are just filler for the Fuel idiots and monkey shows. Got rid of or they got old and retired?
Some were replaced...but these are the new days with new cars.
Documentation of S/SS is daunting.

I am just glad am healthy and a car to race the S/SS association races.
Just want to have fun, meet friends, earn some bragging rights.
You can never get a ticket for Bench Racing !

Bracket racing has grew because not everyone wanted a S/SS car.
But our form of racing led to a lot of the technology.
How do you double the power out of factory engine with what you got.

What I liked back in the day was racing Stock every weekend at 75&80 Dragway.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Thinking maybe there is a way to grow S and SS and get back to that.. !
That seem to draw in the local crowd.

I used to race at 75&80 on Friday nights with a Blue H/S (which is F/S today at a 10.5 lb brake)1969 Corvette in 1970-1971. Then in SS/J in 1972. Back then when were forced to use the stock swing axel assembly. S/S cause to many broken rears and stub axels. It was a 4-speed.....lol. so I gave it up and started to build a SS/IA 1968 Camaro. Usually I was at Capitol Race way on Saturdays and Aquasco on Sundays.

They did weight after every run and fuel every other run. They pulled about 6 Comp cars for random checks of various tech items and the tech official was watching at every fuel check for anything odd.
Overall I'd say they amped up the tech routine

If you have 20k stocker heads and 2k intake you have to much money ……..might need your head checked. Rick.

so instead of lowering the indexes again , why not make the hit number 1.40 or 1.50. then every one can race as they please. oh yeah, and lock the rules in for 5 years.no enhancements etc..

I don`t know if anything will be done to "level" the playing field in Stock and Super Stock. How NHRA did it in Comp at Maple Grove, was to make Tom Martino`s ( #2 -.716) index go from 8.85 in RD1 to 8.67 (-.180) in the Final. Not sure if it is his personal index and/or if C/SM got whacked, but that's brutal. Spread between #1 (-.740) and #21 (-.498) is .242.

In COMP any run in eliminations quicker than .500 under the index is readjusted for the next round ---so if a competitor runs say -.502 under his class index then the next round his index is lowered .02---If any competitor should run -.601 during eliminations or quicker the permanent index for that class will be lowered .01 for THE ENTIRE CLASS AFTER the completion of the current race--in no case will the class index be lowered more than .05 at any time in one readjustment for the ENTIRE class but the racer that committed a run of .601 or more will have his PERSONAL INDEX permanently lowered .01 or whatever the infraction was. Some got old, some retired, a few died. Marty Barrette (div. 3) and John Bedencamp (Div. 2) died quite a few years ago. Greg X. retired. Not sure about the National Tech Director named Jim Dale but they all were great guys. Life goes on !
