One of my heroes, along with Ronnie Sox, Bill Jenkins, Don Carlton Dyno Don Nicholson. You bet I’ll vote for him. I have only great memories of him, Plus he was one the best 4 speed driver every. You should be proud of he’s accomplishments.

Voted. My Dad and I were lucky enough to hear some of your Dad's stories first hand at Carlisle in 2005 (along with Tom Hoover):

Re: competition plus
Herb did a great job with his commentary at Indy; he's got my vote. First time I saw him was 1968 (or 1969) at Clarksville TN in the hemi Dart. What a show the old match race days were when you could practically reach across the guardrail and touch them as they passed by!

Re: competition plus
First time I knew of your dad was back in the days of Stuttgart (ark) and Carlilse (ark) dragways. Lee Taylor operated those two and Lakeland at Memphis.
One big money bracket race at Stuttgart he brought the "Mr. 4 Speed" Dart. If Pinks all out thinks they turn the cars around quick, they should have been at the concrete slab at Stuttgart. Across the line then back to the line-up. Cool in the lanes and run again, all day long. Final was your dad and a local 428/auto Fairlane GT. You're dad's arm never missed a stroke all day and the final was no different. I was at the finish line and there wasn't a fender length difference but the Dart's was out in front at the right time. Memories are why I lurk here. Just thought I'd share. |
