I need someone to hone my 305sbc so I can put in new rings. Motor has like 10 passes on it but rings(total seal) I guess didn't take or hone was wrong? I am in the Middle Ga area. We have a guy local that has a new cnc hone machine but he doesn't do stocker motors but he does do lots of dirt track stuff. Just don't want the wrong hone done.

I agree about the rings. The place you mentioned is the one that built the engine...10+- passes ago. I found out Valve springs only had 110lbs seat pressure after 2 sets of valves, 1 camshaft repair, new cam bearings, new lifters, new correct pac springs I finally got that part right. Now I find it has well over 20% leakdown on 5 of 8 and 15%+ on the other 3, oil on top of pistons, etc. I personally have not dealt with them, I know alot of people have and had good luck. I bought the car with this fresh/new engine in it and have the bill from their shop

Sounds as though you may be dealing with a production block. Is it ? …is it filled ? 305 blocks are notoriously soft …

I have seen this happen too many times over the years with production 305 blocks. He or anyone can hone it again but chances are very high that it won’t seal. Bow tie blocks /dart little M blocks are the only remedy to this situation.Unfortunately no one will sell their performance blocks. Another option would be to sleeve a 307 or 350 block. That would be a viable option. To continue to spend money on a production block is not very wise. All in all, I do wish you luck with your racing endeavor …
