Default What engine management system to run fuel injection and igni

So you guys have me convinced regarding the challenges of trying to use an OEM engine computer to run things.

What have you found to be a better solution? FAST? Holley? Something else?

What can they do for me? Log stuff? Be consistent? Allow me to eliminate MAF? Self-tune to get a baseline? Run open-loop to exercise absolute control and consistency? Do they adjust themselves for the air, or do you adjust them?

Depending on which OEM combination you are talking about. In all cases, they have a lot more going on than you need for racing.

I run a Holley HP system in each of my cars. The answer to all of your questions is YES. The base tune takes a little work, but after that it is all good.

Like Gump said they’ll all work and all have more capabilities then most will ever need. I’ve run the Holley Hp on a couple of my cars and love the ease of use the software provides. That along with having a large group of users that you can bounce info off of. Only downfall is the customer service is tough to get ahold of most times. But Robin Lawrence is awesome to work with if you have an issue and is a fellow class racer.

I currently run Holley HP on my LT1. I taught myself, as others mentioned lots of support on forums etc.

I was able to get the stock obd 1.5 to run 11.99 in my 1995 Camaro Convertible with a stock engine. There's some stuff you can adjust in the stock computer, but nothing compared to new stuff with internal logging and all the bells and whistles.

I guess my recommendation would be suspect since I still run a carburator.

However in my opinion Holley is for sure the safe choice.

However for a lower cost alternative with great support I would consider MegaSquirt.

My son runs one on his Drag Week car and loves it. It is surprising to see him walk up to a dead cold car with a tunnel ram and two 1,000 CFM throttle bodies on a 418 small block, lean in the window and start it with out touching the accelerator.

I hope to add one to my race car primarily as a data logger but also use it for coil near plug ignition.
