a respected/experienced converter builder tells me it "tightens" the converter 200 RPM. After some experimentation, I have settled on name brand Dexron/Mercon III. [that is to say, not a house brand] Valvoline, Pennzoil, Castrol, etc. The house brands, while OK for basic passenger car service, do not have the premium additive package to resist heat over time.

The specific gravity of the fluid will have more influence on the stall speed than the viscosity. Synthetic fluids change viscosity less with temperature than dyno fluids so will be more consistent, look for a fluid built with group 4 base stock.

Just remember if you use TDH in a trans make sure you use the winter blend ---it is clear whereas the summer blend is "Orangish" in color---you can buy JD TDH at most farm supply stores , some Walmarts sell it also Autozone Napa etc& other auto parts stores can get it for you too--- stuff works great in rear ends too---race only not on the street rears

I was told by a great super stock racer that's no longer with us to use John Deere TY22000. He said with atf fluid he changed it every 50 passes and the John Deere he put it in and ran it 150 passes when he would pull trans to freshen it. I ran it in a bracket car with a ford C4 with great luck and that's what he ran also. I just built a fresh C4 for a street truck put it in it but hasn't been long enough to tell how it will workout on the street. Around a 1000 miles so far so good.
