Wheel stud installation - press in type.
What is the best way to install wheel studs in new brake rotors and axles so they are straight?
Thanks. |

Bobby,
lube the knurled section & threads with never seize then stack some spacers or washers on the stud and pull them in place with a nut. Once the stud is bottomed give it a few hammer taps to make sure it is seated.

Re: Wheel stud installation - press in type.
Believe it or not there actually is a stud installation tool and I own one, I think it came from Mac. It has a large piece that threads on and uses spacers to pull the stud through the axle or hub. It works better than using a lug nut which is how I did them before. High pressure lube on the threads helps and I pull them with an impact gun.
I have this onehttps://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/WS802/WHEEL-STUD-INSTALLER-SET/ This one can be found from Lisle and it has a bearing in it can be found cheap or possibly borrowed from Autozonehttps://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/WS228/WHEEL-STUD-INSTALLER/ |

Re: Wheel stud installation - press in type.
Thanks guys! Going back to steel wheels and short studs.
(I'd done the long studs for aluminum wheels and they required a little "adjusting" :-) |
