Default Modified Question???

I am getting back to work on converting out N/A 10.5 NMCA car to do some more localized NHRA divisional racing and looking at either SS/AM or BM, I have most everything else in place but we have been using a single 1050 dominator on this setup. I know the rules state I am allowed two approved 850's but can I still run a single dominator? I will eventually have a manifold built and a pair of 850's prepared, but would like to run the car next season for a few races...

Thanks..

In my understanding "Limited to two" means "Two and only two" 4BBL carbs. There is a sidebar that says you can run carbs from sections 1-2-3 but not over 850 cfm.

You are I think allowed up to 2 4bbl carbs or 3 2bbl carbs max-- if you want to run only one that is up to you--it does not say that it is prohibited but you better check with tech to be positive- missed the part about 850 CFM unless they are meaning 2 4bbl carbs of maximum 850 CFM each

Here's that section sidebar from the Accepted Parts thing:

"4. Any of the OEM or aftermarket accepted 600, 750, or 850 CFM carburetors listed in sections I, II, or III above may also be used in these classes. For these applications the throttle bore, venturi, throttle shaft and plate dimensions listed in sections I, II, or III apply for these carburetors only."

the key word here you are not seeing is "MAY" also be used---"MAY" it does not say you are restricted to just those carbs---but if you do use THOSE carbs then certain restrictions apply

This is getting a little academic, but I noticed something that actually relates to the OP's question as to whether or not he is limited to two carbs for 4bbl applications or can run one if he wants. The head for section IV in Accepted Products reads:

Quote:
FOR CLASSES LIMITED TO TWO NHRA-ACCEPTED AMERICAN PRODUCTION 4-BARREL (INLINE PROHIBITED) OR THREE AMERICAN PRODUCTION 2-BARREL CARBURETORS MAXIMUM:
Applicable Classes: SS/AM, SS/BM, SS/CM, SS/DM, SS/EM, SS/FM, SS/GM
(My emphasis)

It reads like two is the max but not a required number when talking 4bbl.
