I thought I'd start a thread to spark some interest in having a 50th Anniversary Reunion of the 1964 Hemi cars. It's hard to top the 2008 Hemi Reunion, but it would be worth trying. I'd prefer a central location personally, or having it in York as I have family there. Not sure what track would have the most significance to those cars. I guess it could be held at Carlisle with the regular Chrysler meet if nothing else is available.

James, you can bet that the Carlisle group will have one dedicated to the 50th 426 Hemi Anniversary because they always hold one every year for certain Mopar models that are getting older...As for someone else organizing one, personally I'd like to see a "Match Race Tour" just like the old days, but don't know if that would be feasible for the promoters or owners of the cars traveling the country visiting some of the old drag strips that are still running...it would make it easier for people that live in different parts of the country to take in these match race events...yeah I know it's probably to big of a job to organize but it would be a hell of a show wouldn't it !!!

I know the guys in the Cowtown Mopars club pretty well. I think they would host one at the Texas Motorplex with their Mopars at the Motorplex event. I don't think many people would want to haul all over the place, but it's a cool idea. There isn't much nostalgia racing down here in Texas like they have in OH/PA areas.

Get Mopar to flip the bill...they can haul all their new Hemi cars & products to these events in their Chrysler Roadshow semis & trailers...they do it for other shows.

held at a more modern facility...maybe a "Mega-Plex" and left the show really not feeling being "back in the day?" Perhaps that "feeling" is not important for some of us but..... Not trying to "knock" the upgraded and fine facilities of today...and of course the larger venues mean a potential for MORE $$$$...more entries and more "fannies" in the seats... Places like Cecil County...Island Dragway...and Old Dominion...have a "nostalgic" tie to the Match-race past...as do other tracks all over the nation. Where does one start with ideas...and should the emphasis be on QUALITY rather than QUANTITY? |

I got an e-mail from Reed Koeppe saying there will never be another Hemi reunion. Here's the second e-mail from Reed:
"Of course Dick Towers is no longer with us - Jim Kramer's wife will divorce him if he tries to do it again and a lot of us that helped get people/cars there are worn out -- Dick was a BIG influence on getting cars/people to attend - MANY Hours & $$$ went into planning that event. Someone else can try to do it ---- But it will never be like this event was - just personal opinion Jim -- Reed in Neb."

James, I think that's because the main driving force behind organizing those past hemi reunions is no longer with us because Dick Towers passed away a couple of years ago...maybe some of the others involved will regroup for another attempt at putting one together.

Well, I e-mailed as many people as I know: Hemi Fred, the Missile gang, Stewart Pomeroy, Jeff Teuton, Reed and others. So far, not much response. I'll let the idea germinate for a while and see if anything sprouts. Right now, I'm thinking the Carlisle meet will be the most practical as they have tons of space at the fairgrounds. They usually have the York US 30 Reunion the same weekend, so that might be a possibility although that building doesn't seem to have excess capacity. The racing would have to go to Beaver Springs in coordination with their NSS race there assuming the schedules are running the same as the last few years. I could probably get the Cowtown Mopar group down here have a mini-version with their Mopars at the Motorplex, but it would be very small compared to the 2008 event.

Well since your emailing everyone you know you might as well fire one off to Mopar Performance if you know anyone there, plus it can't hurt to try...I think this event will need some corporate sponsorship to fly.
