Picked up a '63 Dart w/225. I thought that the 273/2 was avaiable for the Dart No such luck. The 225 has under 50K (documented). @ 2606 lbs. and 135HP this puts the Dart @T or U/SA. Is this a low budget racer? Does anyone have any direction , help or parts for this new set up? Thanks

Not a very good combo for stock, I doubt it would run the index. Sorry.

Phillip,
the biggest problem with a low powered combination is running the dial consistently. You have a small carb, small head and the performance will vary greatly with changing conditions. And per the above post, may not even run the index.

Well, let's compare it to my 230 Chevy, it's got a bigger cam, better head, better intake, I don't know about the size of the carb but my venturi/ throttle bore are 1.313/1.686. It has a much longer stroke but it's not going to see a lot of RPM anyway, maybe 5500 to 5700 tops. It uses a torqueflite vs. my powerglide ( I had my 'glide so right that I never tried a 200 turbo) and it would weigh 200 lbs less than my Nova at U weight. I've gone 14.0s and teens in U in good air so I think that your Dart could be a bit better than an index runner.
As far as being consistant, little motors need to be paid more attention as to temps, weather and wind than big motored cars but they can work just fine.

The 3 tenths index change killed the 1 barrel combos. I'd have to go look at my old time slips but I think I was only good for about 20-30 under way back when I ran the 1 barrel. When it's all said and done Marks mustang is the killer in this class and probably will be for a long time. P.S If anybody want's to run the 2 barrel combo my engine is for sale. The old wagon has a 360 now.

Buy Phil's Slant Six and run it as an SS/GT car...maybe get a fancy intake manifold somewhere. You could probably still run the original 7 1/4" rear end!

Or if he just wanted to burn through wheelbarrows full of money he could build a SS/GT car with a Hyper-Pack in it.

I think you have to run an 8 cylinder in the GT classes. If not you could fly with an SRT4 motor turned sideways (normal to you, sideways to me)
