Default Any machinists set valves on an DOHC motor?

I have been looking at my solid lash adjusters. And there is no room to get a feeler gauge inbetween the valve and the rocker (the rocker has a channel that rides on the valve)

I can measure the distance between the cam and the roller on the rocker.

The only way I can adjust them is to do it one cylinder at a time (2 intakes or 2 exhausts)
Then pull the cam and adjusters lock the locknuts, then recheck them. Then move on to another pair of valves
Any ideas on an easier way to do it?

Artie split the feeler to desired width.

Art---see if ya got any motorcycle mechs around they have the same situation with the Jap bikes take a rocker over and see if one of their feelers will fit in your rocker--also ya using the PT cruiser NA rockers ??? they will take a lot more/higher rpm than a stock one---look at a set of DRAPER feeler gauges usually kinda long narrow tips lotsa bike mechs use this type

Thanks I'll do that.
Using 2.7 rockers they are a bit better than the PTs

Art---what you are looking for is TAPERED feeler gauges---they have a narrow point you stick in the rocker then get wider as they go back towards where ya hold em

I just bought a set of Honda motorcycle gauges on Ebay I might have to trim them but they look like what I might be able to use.

Art,
To convert the MM feeler gauges to standard just multiply by .03937.

1mm x .03937= .03937
.5mm x .03937= .01968

Art,
I'd cut the adjuster boss down to where you can get a wrench on the adjuster in there real easy or if this is a super stock motor I'd weld the adjuster to the rocker and make the pad that the rocker sits on stationary. (as long as there's room for cam/cams

Art,
What is the actual Rocker Ratio? You know,measured... Measure the lobe lift and then the valve lift @ "0" lash. Then divide the required lash, at the valve tip, by the RR and set at the roller.
You do realize with a set up like that you can alter the RR with tip length of the valve. It can also move the cam timing around a little.

Get a pair(1 Int and 1 ex) set at the valve to whatever lash you want and then see what it is between the cam and the roller. A feeler gauge should work ......Once you know the number that is at the cam/roller with the proper lash at the valve tip..... set them all at the cam/roller contact area. They do make very thin open end wrenches once know as tappet wrenches that might work on the adjusters...

I agree that motorcycle engine mechanics would have tools to do this....My son has been around motorcycles all his life......

I also think Terry's idea of cutting the bosses down is a very good one......Not real hard to do it either.....
