Question mufflers

I just installed a set of mufflers on my stocker engine . Has anyone tried mufflers and if so what should I do with the timing and jets ? Richer or leaner or what . Any help would be greatly appreciated . Mike

I have not tried mufflers on a stocker. I have tried them on various race engines. MOST any muffler that actually works as a muffler will present at least some restriction.

It depends on how much of a restriction the mufflers are compared to your open headers. The more of a restriction they (the mufflers) are, the leaner you'd need to be, compared to the open exhaust. Of course, that all depends on how close you were to ideal to begin with. It also depends on how well your headers were tuned to your combination to begin with. I'm not sure on timing. However, if the mufflers present any real restriction, they MAY contribute to left over exhaust contaminating the intake charge. That MIGHT require more timing. Again, it depends on how close to ideal you were to begin with.

I put a set of the IMCA mufflers on my crate motor stocker. It was .08 slower in the 1/8th mile.

I used a self tapping sheet metal screw. I screwed them directly into the collector. I ran them a couple of races. I needed to move up on the sheet at a race and took them off I picked up .08 from previous pass.
These mufflers are cheap. I bought them from Speedway Motorsports, Around $50 for the pair. If car is tuned properly probably won't be any difference.

I run Flowmaster 1 chamber race mufflers , didn't see any difference with or without them on the car. Installed an X pipe and picked up .2.
Does any stocker's run an X pipe on an open exhaust ?
