Race 3 Report
RACE REPORT EVENT 3 ------ GREENFIELD DRAGWAY AUGUST 25 2019
Event number 3 of the 2019 ACSSA series was contested as part of Greenfield Dragway’s Super Bracket Bash weekend, being held Sunday August 25th. We awoke Sunday morning to sunny skies and crisp, cool, fall-like air; it was to be a great day of racing with 18 competitors on site. My observed readings for Q1 were as follows, temperature of 63 degrees F, 700ft density altitude, 30.03 barometer, and about 60% humidity. Q2 saw the air change slightly to 70 degrees, 1150 DA, and 43% humidity allowing for the ordered to be juggled around slightly. However after both sessions were all said and done, Jeremy Keans’ H/SA ’83 Camaro topped the field with a 10.881 elapsed time (-1.268 under 12.15 index). Wayne Deveau’s GT/HA Monza and Tyler Pickrem’s D/SA Chevelle both made the field for the first time this year, it was great to see them both back on track. First round brought 17 cars to the lanes, as Terry Knapper’s Camaro suffered electrical issues of which he could not repair at the track, giving Deveau a competition single. As the rounds progressed there was some tight racing, and some lucky strikes! We had byes all the way through, Keans number 1 qualifying spot got him the bye second round, Chapman moved in to take the bye in the third round, and broke the rear gears on launch, opening up a first for many to see, a pair of single’s into the final. Keans was to run Chapman in the fourth but accepted the competition single by breaking the beams, while Kierstead waited just behind the stripe. Jack then moved in to accept his bye run win by breaking the beams, both competitors then backed onto the burnout pad to immediately run the final. Kierstead dialed his I/SA ’76 Nova 11.43 and left first with an awesome .008 reaction, Keans H/SA Camaro was not far behind dialed 10.91, and with an .015 reaction he was trying to make this a race. At the top end the little 305 muscled by with an 11.92 as Keirstead slowed to an 11.46, giving Jeremy Keans the win with a .018 margin of victory. Also I would like to make note that many of our competitors made it into the later rounds of Saturday’s Bracket Bash classes, with Mike Ingram driving his D/PS Camaro to a Runner-Up finish in no box, after fighting his way through a field of 81, plus a buy back round.
