Dan,
I used green scotchbrite pads wrapped around a block of wood and a spray bottle with plain water in it. Go with the grain, medium pressure. It worked great. Got that tip from Marty Reinhart at gold rush. When I was done I went over it with 409 spray cleaner and a sponge mop. Looks brand new.
