It's About Time (Not MPH)
Yes, I'm the owner of a 96 Ford Escort, 2dr. 5 speed
It's only been, maybe 5 years? The car is still in San Diego , in the possession of a racer / friend who handled the deal for me. Many thanks, and I'm not sure you want your name associated with this drivel. Alex and I will probably do a relay pick up this weekend. I built a quickie open trailer last month, expressly for this caper. Can't get a VIN and tag till my appointment comes up,...February 9th! My plan for Phase 1 is to do whatever it needs to get it to run a few tenths under, for our local association races. Going to get with Billy Nees Race Cars for some header pieces. I've had the 19.5 Hoosiers for a while..Will find some rims for them. I'll do whatever it takes to keep the engine from rocking and rolling and trying to jump out from under the hood when I dump the clutch..Same for the front tires. Phase 2 might be to pick up another engine and do it right, in case I ever want to go to Indy again. I doubt that would happen but I never say never. Oh, and for those still awake who think these things aren't really race cars, you may be right . I might not actually be over there in that other lane, so just leave whenever you want ;-)

Re: It's About Time (Not MPH)
First thing on rims and tires I see you have 13 tires make sure rims will clear your brakes. Aero makes wider wheel for the dirt cars. Solid mounts for engine and trans can be made by knocking out the centers and make insert from aluminum. Don't forget to look on dirt sites [central hornets is one] we see a few of them racing, for parts. I could hook you up with a guy that knows these cars. I would also call delta cams about a regrind quick turn around. Check out there facebook page.Tom

Re: It's About Time (Not MPH)
Here we go.
I gotta be nuts..A working A/C car with power steering ,that passes smog..Ripping all that out and throwing it in the dumpster. Don't ask where the Freon went to ;-) I warmed this thing up first and drove it around the block a few times.I was able to power shift 2nd gear without destroying what's left of the clutch. I convinced myself that it won't take much to run under the index with this car.. But then , a friend reminded me that at the 4600 ' where my shop is, I'm giving up 9 tenths of ET. ...Okay ,so it will run close to the factored ET index. Stay tuned for more parts in the dumpster. 55 pounds out, so far.
