I started this project a long time ago than changed my mind and it was going to be a street car and stopped working on it. Fast forward to 2013 and the Super Stock project is back on. We have been working on Modified Mustangs & Fords magazine Coyote powered 1966 Mustang project car and they want to do a few drag racing stories so they talked me into finishing the 1967 Fairlane. At this time the plan is to run a 390 with a C4, CalTracs and OpenTracker front suspension http://www.opentrackerracingproducts.com/
This is what I started with ![]() We installed the roll cage ![]() Stripped everything down to bare metal than epoxy primed with SPI black epoxy ![]() ![]() ![]() I finished the major bodywork ![]() OpenTracker front suspension http://www.opentrackerracingproducts.com/ ![]() I will be painting it SPI Red ![]()

We are building this kind of old school mini tubbed with leaf springs. It may not be the quickest but I think we will have some fun.

My 68 is having major header issues. The Mustang ones will work if I cut the member. Many guys put a bolt in like the Mustang. They are much smaller and allow more room for the header. It will also aid in oil pan removal should you need to pull a rod. This is my observations only and I still haven't cut mine.

Man I love '66 '67 Fairlanes! This car is screaming for a 427 dual four motor though.

Back in 1967 I wanted to order a 427 Fairlane and was told it would take a year to get one why don't you order a Galaxie so I ordered a 427 Custom with the plan of racing it. When it came in (it was red) it had a 9 3/8 ring gear and nothing was available. I blew the engine up at 872 miles. The warranty was 90 days or 1200 miles. They fixed it under warranty and we sold it. I wish I had it today. What a rare car.

Rusty, the car looks awesome!
I've not heard of the SPI paints before, and I'm in the middle of body working my Wagon. Whats your thoughts on their product? Is it something a amature can use in a garage? That Red is beautiful, is that a white base coat or sealer?
