Please excuse my ignorance.
What is a "Dime Rocket".? I'm a bracket racer- not a class racer. Though i wish i could be. I have seen this expression alot but don't know what it truly means. I have an idea but don't know for sure.
Thanks- Mitch.

Re: Please excuse my ignorance.
The original concept was to build a race a stocker for under 10K. Now Billy took it one step better and built and raced a stocker for 1K. The concept is easy in theory, build and compete in a stocker for as little money as possiable. I really like the challenge and appreciate some good advive from people's experience. If I did not currently have a stocker I would do this. But, I did do this with my street/bracket car.

Re: Please excuse my ignorance.
Dime Rocket Premises:
1) If you can run the index and do not get beat by a faster car in a heads-up run, you are as competitive as anyone (if you can drive). 2) An inexpensive car can beat a bucks-up car on the handicap. 3) Lots of 'speed' parts are not really necessary to win. 4) You can do a lot of stuff yourself to build a car. 5) The class guide is filled with cars that can be built to run the index. Pros: 1) The Challenge! 2) Feeds the ego, inspires the soul and expands the mind. 3) Makes class racing more available to the racing community. 4) Requires you to develop skills and acquire knowledge you wish you had anyway. 5) Stirs the pot of the cookie cutter race image cars. 6) Increases the car counts. 7) Confounds the simple and wise alike. 8) Recycles used race parts. 9) You don't have to worry about people stealing your stuff. 10) Gets some odd, ugly cars out of the salvage yards and off the streets and gives them celebrity life. Cons: 1) The Challenge! 2) You can't order many parts from Summit or Jeg's. 3) Most of the cars are slow. 4) Few people understand. 5) You cannot be lazy and make it work. 6) You will not get a lot of respect from the big bucks guys. 7) Not a lot of development or shared knowledge to draw from. 8) Fuel, food, motels and travel expenses are the same as the glamorous cars. 9) It's hard to build a stick car for cheap. 10) "That's a race car?!?" BUT ! The cost of the car - cheap The look on the face of that driver of the $100k factory car you just took out - priceless!!

Re: Please excuse my ignorance.
I'd steal this one. Ran under the index the first year out with a bone stock engine. He "borrowed" a cam for it and actually got NHRA to approve a set of $100 pistons.
