Stocker fuel checks ????
I've heard thru the stocker grapevine that the mixing of two different octane or brand of fuels is prohibited in stock racing. My concern is this........... I'm running this weekend at Atco and have a few gallons of sunoco 110 octane purple in the tank. What happens when I mix this with Atcos VP fuel ???? Can I mix 110 and 112 Sunoco fuels together ??? I've been told they look at the color. One is blue the other is purple mixed they should look similar ???? Right ???? Whats the basic rule of thumb for this dilemma.

My advice is to completely drain the entire fuel system (and take the foam out and throw it away if you have foam in a fuel cell) and then flush the system with a gallon or so of the new fuel. Don't forget to drain the carburetor as well.

Many times my lawn mower has enjoyed $8.00 per gallon fuel...

Your questions:
What happens when I mix this with Atcos VP fuel ???? --- you will probably fail fuel check---Can I mix 110 and 112 Sunoco fuels together ??? --- You can, but again you will probably fail fuel check.---I've been told they look at the color. -- Fuels are chemical based trying to match colors won't make the mix pass fuel check.... NHRA doesn't give points for most colorful fuel.... Drain the sysrem, air it out & flush with what you intend to put in.. Get it all you can OUT.. good luck Go to fuel check before you make a run & get it checked. Could save you some problems & give you time to get it where it does pass. Bob, Just find some extra 110 and add to what you all ready in your tank...I always run 110 and have never failed, everytime I try a different fuel it fails...I have never seen that much difference in a low compression motor anyway..... What do they do with the fuel sample to test it?

The fuel is tested with a meter that measures it's resistance. The reason you can't mix two different but legal fuels is that they will test out of the acceptable range for both of the fuels mixed together. Each fuel that is accepted is tested and it has a resistance range that it has to fall into when tested. The fuel check guy has book with all the numbers in it, and he can tell by the color of the fuel what it is. If two fuels are mixed so will it's color, thats when the reg flags go up.
When I started class racing I couldn't understand why I couldn't mix two legal fuels together, there both legal why not. Then someone explained how they do it and what they are looking for. If you have 10 gals. of VP mixed with 1 gal.of Sunoco most likely the fuel will fall into the VP range. If you go 7 & 3 it may not. If it's 5 & 5 it will fail.

But if the two fuels have the same or almost the same conductance (that's the chemistry term for it), shouldn't they have the same conductance when mixed?

Specific gravity is what's checked on fuel.
