1962 421SD Pistons
Any of you Pontiac guys know of anybody who might have at least one decent 1962 421SD factory piston ?
A Stock racer needs one to send to the piston maker to duplicate & send to NHRA for approval. |

Re: 1962 421SD Pistons
Mickey Thompson ORIGINALLY made the "custom" pistons for the SD engines might try contacting M/T see if they still have any prints and /or they would even make 1 piston OR if they had any paperwork where they could still make a piston---FED 387

Re: 1962 421SD Pistons
Thanks for the replies !
I'll check out all leads. I know there are bound to be a few guys who have gathered up lots of the old 421SD stuff. I just don't know any of 'em. Don't need a whole set. Just need one decent piston, suitable as a pattern for making a copy of it. But, I suppose an official, detailed description MIGHT be sufficient to get NHRA approval. Or, must they see an actual original piston, to compare it to the copy ? Anybody know, for sure ? |

Re: 1962 421SD Pistons
Love it. Well, while I'm being ignored let me chime in with some facts. Pontiac had their own pistons too, not just M/T's. I've had three NOS sets given to me by Jess Tyree when he was running my engine in his '63 Tempest. I still have one full set.In the factory boxes with factory part numbers. But that's ok. Pontiac knowledge? Who? Me? pfffft.
