I know very little about stockers and no one where I lives know anything about them so I have no idea of where to even start. I have a 68 Mustang coupe and would like to build a crate motor stocker. Looking for any help you can give. I know some combos are better than others so which motor can I or should I be looking to run in my car and what class would that put me in. What are you allowed and not allowed to do to the motors. I live In Virginia does anyone know an engine builder that understands crate motors and the rules that go along with them.
Also I know there is more than just the motor there is the transmission, converter, gear and suspension all working together that makes these car work and that a stoker is expensive, but ballpark how much does it cost to build one of these cars. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreaciated. |

Crate motor stock is a great place to start especially with a car that does not have a real good natural combo to run. We run a 1972 Maverick in L/CM with the 215 - 240hp 302 which is the Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer engine. The 270 - 250 hp 302 is also a good combo that we run in a 1985 Capri in M/CM. Any machine shop that understands stock can get you on track with a crate motor. We use Bullet cams, edelbrock performer RPM airgap manifold and a 3310 Holley carb. Good luck and welcome to Stock. Is the 351 or 392 motor a good combo.
Which class would i have to run with these motors. |

per the NHRA classification guide, your cars shipping weight with a 302 V8 is 2874#.
divide shipping weight by factored hp to determine class. I think these calculations are correct. 392ci/430/410 hp =7.00 lb/hp is C/CM 351ci/385/375 hp=7.66 lb/hp is D/CM 302ci/320/330 hp= 9.58 lb/hp is H/CM 302ci/270/250 hp=11.50 lb/hp is L/CM

I's say stock GT.....then again that depends on what you want to do....their are alot of good combo's out their for both chevy & fords....I know little about mopars but i'm sure their are good combos their too. remember it has to be an 80 or newer car with an older engine.. (NO FI engines)
