Default Best Rockingham Route

A question for my D2 friends.
Coming south on I95 ,would you use I95 to Fayetteville and then Rt401 to Rt74 to Rockingham ,Or take I84S thru Durham and Raleigh to Rt 1 ?
The maps say 20miles farther going by I95 to Fayetteville , but I remember the I85 route being pretty sluggish at times , and US1 was a lot of two lane as I remember .

Thumbs up Re: Best Rockingham Route

Tom,
Avoid I-85 into NC. Road construction going on and last week my wife and I sat for 35 minutes southbound in one spot, motor shut off, listening to Mother Nature. Only 1 lane each way for miles. Must have been an accident. Safe travels !

Tom most of US 1 is 4 lane now, if you came that way I would run 95 down to 64 in Rocky Mount then cut across. Depending on time of day it will get connected around Raliegh.
Coming to Fayetteville is a good alternative and will likely be just as fast, there are a couple places when going around Fayetteville that are a little tight depending on the size of your rig. I'm 75' and just take up both lanes in a few places, most of the time they move!

Exactly what James said Tom. When I’d go there from Richmond when I lived there I drove kinda fast but I could make it in just over 4 hours going to rocky mount and sliding over. Of course that was all in the middle of the night too. Good luck this weekend. I was going to go with Hawk and Hudlow but I got a big job I’m handling at the moment and can’t get away.
