Question MSD tech support. This is funny!

Had a problem with the box in my wife's car last weekend. Car slowed .6 and 10mph.
After troubleshooting I determined it was the ignition. Replaced said ignition and magically .6 and 10 mph is back. We run the rest of the race. I finally get around to calling MSD for a RMA for repair.
The conversation goes like this.
Me: I would like to return a 7530t for repair.
Tech: (before I can describe the problem)
Does it start the car?
Me: Yes
Tech: There is nothing wrong with the box.
After a rather excited exchange he agrees that just starting the car sets the bar pretty low.

My experiences with getting any box repaired at MSD is totally negative.

The last time was a
7al2 box....No help whatsoever....a waste of time and money sending it to them. Nothing wrong with it they say...

Swapped it in and out 2 times with another box both before and after sending it to them.....

Same results every swap.....box does not work right, engine missing badly going down the track....replacement works fine...no other changes...

Newer Digital box....I would not waste my time or money sending it to them and my experience with modern hi tech electronic board equipped machines says throw it out and buy a new one...unfortunately......

Don't be surprised if they don't find anything wrong.

When MSD had a trailer on Drag Week two different years my son took them a box that missed a little in high gear. They would run all the tests in the trailer and I swear you could have welded with the spark that thing would produce. The car would still miss until another MSD box was installed.

Last two years he has run Coil Near Plug. Other than an MSD crank trigger bracket no MSD parts or MSD failures which as been common in the past (coil one year, all the smoke came out of a box another).

Kind of surprised no one chimed in and suggested TechWest Racing.
Fixed, and updated my 7AL-2 last year.
Quick turn around and reasonable prices.

I keep spares in the trailer. I learned the hard way. If you have a good one on the car, buy. New one. Try the new one to make certain it is good, put either that new one, or your old good one in the trailer for a spare. Same with your ignition coils and crank trigger. Always have a know good one in the trailer.

Great advice (I do the same thing)

Ken,
Thanks for the heads up.
Did not realize they are having issues.
I must have gotten lucky.

JD was released(resigned) after over twenty years when new ownership took over. Service has gone bad to worst since.
