Intake gasket sealant

Currently having to run 2-intake gaskets together per side for intake to fit correctly. Pulled intake for cam change and found evidence of rust on intake rails near water jackets. No evidence of rust near intake runners or in the oil. Appears to be leaking to the exterior. I was out of silicone at time of build, so I used semi soft permatex. Not only did it leak, but was a pain in the butt to clean intake rails. Need suggestions. Thanks

Ed,

I'm not sure what engine you're working on but, Fel-Pro makes extra thick intake gaskets so you might not need to glue 2 of them together. As for sealant I use Permatex "Right Stuff" and have had great luck with it.

My preferred sealant for intakes is Permatex Water Pump & Thermostat RTV Silicone Gasket Maker.

ED I will get the number of the felpro thick gasket that I used. I always glued it to the intake and reused it for teardown with no sealant on the head side, with a thin coat of grease for no stick seal. Tom

Take a look at Fel pro 1266 gasket it's .120 thick otherwise make an aluminum spacer plate and o-ring it

Spray the two sides of the two gaskets with High Tack that you want to glue together and set the intake on the engine for a couple of hours while the two gaskets dry. then install in the same manner as usual. Check the ends of the intake where it mates up to the block to make sure you have some clearance there. If not the intake will not seal no matter what you do. The MR Gasket thick gaskets are just two gaskets glued together at the factory. I have done this many times with good success

Cometic intake gaskets are by far the best...and they make them in a lot of different thicknesses........

Call them and talk to a Tech person. They have templates for most heads.

I have Oval Port Brodix heads and their gaskets fit perfect and don't leak or deteriorate.....

I use an .090" thick gasket and they make them for me direct...no middle man...

I don't have their phone number handy....but their easy to find....Google
