AHFS Changes (FWD/RWD GT Combinations)

After reviewing SRAC member input regarding possible changes to the Automatic Horsepower Factoring System (AHFS), NHRA’s Technical Department released the following changes for the 2014 season.

Beginning January 1st 2014 the AHFS will review Super Stock GT front and rear wheel drive combinations separately. This is not an immediate across the board change, changes will be made only during the mid-year or end of year adjustments, or when a -1.20 under run occurs. At which point the review process will look to see whether a FWD or RWD combination caused the adjustment; only that combination will receive an adjustment.

Does this mean we can get horse power taken off because a combo got killed by a front wheel drive car a few years ago ???

If they are that different then they should not be in the same class. What's next, factoring based on the car's color... black cars absorb more heat than white cars so they have to be factored separately?

This is the AHFS policy wording...

•Body style and transmission type: Also considered in the above two screening processes are body style of the engine combination being reviewed and transmission type. Adjustments are only in effect for the specific car model being evaluated. The body style are generally classified by the OEM auto manufacturers' definition of "platform", i.e., the Camaro and Firebird body are both based on the same platform and therefore considered the same with regard to body-style classification. In some instances, however, more than one body style will trigger a review. With regards to transmission type, if the class average triggers the review, the adjustment would be for classes with the type of transmission triggering the change. However, if an engine family average triggers the review, the adjustment would be for all transmission types.

For what ever reason, for years this policy has been implemented on Stock, and Superstock, (ie 5 HP hit to "Corvette Only").... but Not on GT. They are now going to apply GT guidelines as the policy reads.
