Default 351 C 2bbl History ??

I'm curious how this engine started @ 164 hp and is now factored @ 240 hp. I see a 72 165/350 chev with more compression & a slightly bigger carb is between 224 - 230. I know I have the bigger ports/valves with the cleveland but I'm not finding that advantageous. I know of one person who tried the 351c 2bbl route but he couldnt run the numbers. Has somebody run this succesfully to get the # to 240 or was this just an NHRA "THING"?

It received it's 240 rating based on an "overrated" gross rating from the late 60s and early 70s. When the manufacturers went to a net HP rating in 1972? it put NHRA in a position of having to assign a realistic number to these combos so they looked at the nearest gross rated combo that they could find and rated them from that.
On a lighter note, they are a lot more receptive to giving these combos back HP than they have ever been.

So, if I ask nicely they will show some love to the 71 Boss that's at 355 now?

Seriously, no block, no crank, Chinese rods, when everybody else get the aftermarket good stuff?

Bill,
I think this is the car that put the hurt on that combo BUT it was a while ago.

8. Rob Youngblood, Nampa, Idaho, D/S '71 Mustang, 10.698 (-1.102)

He races a Vette now.

Billy,
Did some research. The 71 is the same engine rated @ 240 in both sides of the classification guide. The 70 has a little more cam, carb, & compression & is @ 250. I dug out an old old Motor's manual & looked up the 70 & it also had it rated @ 250 @ 4600 & torque was 355 @ 2600. Since apparently Ford had this thing (71,72) @ 240 do you think NHRA will go below that ?
