When were Corvettes allowed to race in modified stock? (ss/as.bs.cs etc)
I know the NHRA rule book used to state it was for 1967 and up production 2 door sedan or hardtop passenger cars. I checked the 2013 rule book and the sedan and hardtop statement is absent under SS but is still there in Comp. I am asking this because of a certain Corvette that usually runs IHRA PDA-1 , ran SS/BS this weekend at Norwalk. This is the first time I've seen a Corvette in Modified Stock and I thought it was BS. ![]() |

BlkJack (Bob),
You must not know me. In the past I have run a V-6 and have a wall full of IHRA and NHRA Records running the V-6. I even hit a couple of indexes. I know those V-6 classes. SS/DM is a V-8 class. I do know that quite a few years ago Tom Elliott (Suzannes car) had a Vette with a 18 degree V-6 and ran mostly IHRA and never ran SS/DS. Sports Car Rule...

NHRA rule book was changed as of 2013. As was stated in your own post sedan and hard tops has been removed. IHRA has not changed their rule book at this time.
Bob Lowry, driver of the car you are talking about. Hope this answers your question |

Bob is correct, the outdated rule was presented to NHRA's tech commitee last fall thanks to Mike Crutchfield and the change was approved. It was an old rule that excluded corvette's as they were perceived as having some type of advantage but as cars/manufacturers have changed over the years it is obvious that a corvette has no more advantage than a front wheel conversion late model vehicle that can change from modified stock, to modified, to comp. In addition there are many corvettes out there that run single carb set ups that could be competitive in modified stock that usually don't race NHRA, therefore hopefully increasing car counts.
