Take the regulator and throw it in the garbage. Years ago I ordered a BG regulator and it did the same thing. Summit replaced it and it did the same thing. Sent it back again. Third time, same thing.

Barry Grant was good at marketing. Not so good in the quality control department...

I've had one on my car for years, never had a problem (knock on wood). They do require a special inlet fitting that is ported on the regulator side.

It's a special 1/2" NPT fitting that is ported on the NPT side, larger I.D. than the AN side. of the fitting. Here's the text directly from the BG catalog right next to the 2-Port Plus Regulator-
NOTE: Be sure to use a 1/2" NPT adapter fitting on the regulator's inlet that has a minimum I.D. of .530". Fittings with a smaller I.D. on the pipe thread side will interfere with the inlet side function of the regulator. If you don't have this special fitting, you could easily enlarge the inlet side.

When I got my regulator from BG I got the proper fittings for it and the results were the same. Pressure would not hold. Switched to Magnafuel with never a problem.

The fitting that i used, was same size, all the way through... The one that i used on my Volumax reg, was tapered, where it screwed into the reg. That's probably the fitting that i need... i may try it again , when i have time...
