Roller Lifter Question

Who has used Crower Severe-Duty roller lifters and what has your experience been with them? My application is a small-block Chevy SS engine that will see approximately 8100 in the lights. I'm seriously considering switching to Isky Red Zone bushing lifters, but the engine is brand new and was built with the Crowers. Bottom line is who would keep them and who would change them? Thanks. On the Crower an ISKY lifters they run .841 for size which is a .001 under from OEM and GM lifter bores are right at .844 and .003 clearance is way to much. And a non roller block with short lifter bores the lifters will scuff for sure.

I have found the Morel lifters run .842 and seem to work fine if the lifter bores have no wear and the finish of the lifter bore is good.

When buying roller lifters every one has to be ckecked for roundness and sizing and the lifter bares have to be measured for wear and roundness as well.

Thanks, Carl. Forgot to mention that the block is a Bowtie, which (as everyone knows) would have the long lifter bores.

I had great luck with the Crower Hippo lifter. I am using the morel's now with the pin oiler. I would stick with the Crower's. All of their stuff is real good. I have their rods in my engine now.

Never had any problems w/Crower's. I always use plenty of spring so they don't get beat on,if they are boucing around no ones will last,just some longer than others.I'm still not sold on bushing in place of bearing.
I'm also big on If it ain't broke don't fix it. (not fan of run it till it breaks though)
I had guy bring in 97 305 had 200K miles,cylinder's +.0015 after honing,crank std.on low side after polishing,wanted to know what oil I would use when he put back together,I told him use whatever you been using, cause it must be working.

I just switched to the Isky red zone roller bushing lifters and had to machine the top of the lifter bores on my bowtie block so the lifters can fit...Luke

Most guys never measure lifters just stuff them in the hole and call it good. LOL

We have used the Crowers for years in our Super Stock Big Blocks with very good luck. Ours are the .903 diameter and we spin them up to 8600 all the time.
If you change to the Isky you will have to change your pushrods too since they set up at a different height, from what I have seen.

Thanks guys. From what I've learned here and through directly talking with lots of people, I'm leaning toward changing the Crowers for Morels. The biggest reason would be because the engine builder didn't open the lifter bores up (to a larger diameter) and I think the Crower might be marginal at .842.
