Default Ring groove back clearance

I'm doing a mild 350 build for my 65 Impala and the top ring grooves sure do have a lot of back clearance. Sealed Power hyper piston ( coated skirts ) and the economy rings that Sealed Power offers for that piston. I'm guessing the clearance is around .050. The top and second groove depths are the same however the ring widths , top and second are not. The top ring isnt as wide as the second. Why would they do that , is the back clearance excess a problem?
The piston is a dished , 4 valve pocket type.
