I have used a borescope at work. They are a really nice but, it's all of the borescope for all you can spend. The unit I use is $12K. The cheaper units have limitations like too large of a projection head that limits the area you can access. Also, the cheaper units have a limited range of projection head motion so the area you are trying to scan can be very small. If you are going to buy a borescope, do your homework the difference between units can vary a great deal.

My dad gave me one for Christmas and it is pretty handy. It is in a hard case and we keep it in the trailer. The picture is pretty good, but I am not sure I could tell much beyond which cylinder the bolt fell into.

I own an inspection company and that is all we do Remote Visual Inspection. Our videoscopes start at $60,000 and go up from there but the results are awesome. I can go through your carb past your open intake valve and view anything in the cylinder and provide 3D measurements. The cheaper ones do not provide the articulation or the image quality to do detailed cylinder inspections. If you are looking for foreign debris of some size they may work fine.
