Superwinch. I have a SW 5000. You cannot have enough winch.

Check speed of the winch also. You really only need about a 2500 lb winch at most, because you aren't picking the car up. I have used a Dutton Lainson 2500 lb hand winch for decades and it isn't hard to turn--I don't even use the extra gear reduction shaft for the handle.

I have the same winch (3500lb. Stocker), after about one year it started to squeal very badly. I called the factory and they told me to take it apart and grease all the internal moving parts (mostly gears etc). I did as he told me and it is quieter than when new. I don't understand why they aren't greased from the factory? A great winch otherwise! Jim

I use the Warn 3700 pound winch with my 3500# stocker. It is a great winch and have put them in many of my friends trailers without issues.

Jim,
That is good to know! One of those things that never see any maintenance.

I have had my SW 5000 on my open trailer mounted under the steel bed, and have pulled a 57 Belair 4 door on it several times. That thing was made when metal was metal. It's a tank! My point is you may use the winch for something other than a light race car.

The winch companies recommend that you have a winch with a rating of double the weight of the vehicle you will be winching. I think this only applies if you are dragging a truck out of a mud hole though, lol. I've always used a warn 6000lb unit. It will drag anything onto the trailer, Flat tires and all.

I have a Superwinch 2000 lb it pulls the 3000# car no problem. I double up the cable for the 4200# wagon kinda slow but it gets the job done.---Trevor
