Default Plastic or Aluminum fuel cell?

Which one is better, its going in a station wagon. Iam leaning towards the plastic just for the price. How many gallons would you recommend. Thanks for the info.

Most of the professionally built stock/super stock cars I have seen, as well the new factory race cars have aluminum fuel cells if that tells you anything.

That said, I wouldn't waste my $ or time putting a fuel cell in your stocker wagon, there is no performance advantage as I've made over 4000 passes in my '68 Chevelle with the factory unsumped gas tank, running as quick as 9.80's and 60 footing a best of 1.28.

I bought a aluminum 5 gallon cell and mounted it under the steel cover for the spare tire, You can cut a hole in the floor to drop the cell thru for clearance if needed.

My chevelle went 1.28 BLAHBLAHBLAH. Who cares?

I had my car slip off jackstands, caving in the stock tank. I opted for a 15 gallon fuel cell, the empty cell weighs nothing or fill it up for added ballast.

I've seen a lot of plastic tanks warp. Aluminum has to be better, looks nicer, easier to maintain and easier to keep track of how exactly much gas is in it. I use to have a 10 gal. aluminum cell but switched to a 5 gal. aluminum. It's plenty for several runs, but I throw a splash in after every pass anyway. Besides, no sense in having any more of what can go "BOOM" on board than you have to.

Ed No doubt a stock tank will work in his car........ But this is not a bracket car... He will have to go through fuel checks........ It is much easier to manage fuel quality through a smaller amount....... Aluminum is very nice, but plastic will work........

Steve, easier? If you say so but what did everyone do before fuel cells were allowed in stock the past decade?

Did you do that in a stocker? I was told by Div 5 tech that the only hole I could cut was for the sump, and I had to make a cover for the fuel cell.

The reason Iam putting the cell in is because my tank has a leak on the outlet and the car has sat for a while and don't want to get junk in motor. By the time repair and flush the old tank or buy a factory replacement I probably almost paid for a fuel cell.
