It seems like a lot of racers don't want roller rockers (myself included). Write NHRA, tell them and while you're at it, suggest a max valve spring pressure (say, 300-350lbs open) . No more rocker arm issues, lifter problems, pushrod flexing, more square lobes (no advantage without additional pressure) , rpm range kept "reasonable", etc. It has worked before (mufflers). Ron.

Ron, You are partly correct. Not all racers wanted roller rockers. The ones that really wanted them are the ones who chose to race a combination that has a poor valve train set up. They kept bending the ear of select officials until......well you see what we now have.
Unlike roller rockers, the muffler issue never became a rule. Once a rule is printed, manufacturers fill their bins and racers spend cash on parts, it is hard to get a ruling reversed. Speaking of roller rockers in Stock now being allowed...why would anyone think that any ratio other than stock would be allowed? Be ready to have the ratio checked in a teardown. |

It is my understanding stock racers will not be forced to use roller rockers. I.H.R.A has allowed Roller Rockers for years before N.H.R.A. This issue is simple to resolve. If you do not like the new rule, just use what you have been using, it is just that simple.
I for one will use the roller rockers. Not because of a performance davantage, i will use them because of a reliability factor and for no other reason.

Roller rockers will only cause more breakage and oil downs, ( then will come a diaper rule). I am not in favor of the rule change, wish the money hungry bunch in Glendora would leave well enough alone.
How about a rule that would help the life of this sport? Something that would allow the next generation to enjoy drag racing. Something that would keep the neighbors happy and make the tree huggers smile. Put mufflers on your car and save a drag strip, maybe that would have saved my local track. |

So many tracks are getting shut down by the noise complainers. It's 100 times easier to shut a track down than to open one up. I run mufflers on all my cars, regardless of how much power they make. There's actually mufflers out there now that will help make more power with certain combos.

The new factory race cars are a totally different situation, which, ironically, are even further from "Stock" than any IHRA Crate Motor combo! |

NHRA has an accepted rod list where aftermarket rods must meet specifications on the then-current NHRA Stock and Super Stock Replacement Rod Acceptance List. IHRA says you can run "Super Stock connecting rods in Stock Eliminator." They really don't provide any specifications to go by for rods or pistons. |
