Is this legal for a stocker ? It has heim joints in place of the strut rod bushings.
The engineers at Performance Online have just introduced these new chromoly NHRA approved strut rods for early stock type Nova front suspensions that can't handle today's big horsepower motors. Designed for the street or the strip, these strut rods will give a more positive feel and help keep your over powered Nova hooked up and going straight. To ensure superior strength and quality, the engineers at POL incorporated chromoly Teflon/Kevlar lined rod ends, new beefed up frame mounts, and grade 8 hardware. These spherical rod ends will completely eliminate alignment variation from side to side and increase your Nova's ability to quickly transfer weight during hard launches. Combined with Performance Online's drag shocks, this kit will rejuvenate and add great performance to your 62' - 67' Nova. Our strut rod kit is an inexpensive way to improve the original front end! Kit includes: • Strut Rods (zinc plated for corrosion resistance) • Zinc plated Strut bars • All mounting hardware • Limited Lifetime Warranty • Clears aftermarket sway bars. Limited time offer. Strut Rod Kit falls within the parameters of sanctioned drag racing bodies! |

Get it in writing, with the part number and pictures, from Glendora, signed by Gracia or Bachelder. Keep the approval, if you get it, with the car.

I don't think so... Never have been anyway.
I can't imagine why they wouldn't want you to make an early Chevy II that much more safe. I believe they've allowed anti bump steer tie rod kits for the 2nd gen. Novas. That would the argument I'd use when making my case. When I built my 62 Tempest NSS car recently, I replaced the strut rod rubbers with 3/4 female rod ends and welded brackets. It was actually cheaper than buying the replacement bushings. It makes staging the car a whole lot more precise, for one thing. Let us know how this one comes out, please.

Agree. Because that is not something that has been allowed previously. In fact I had an NHRA tech specifically take a look at my strut rods. Didn't look at anything else. Must have been a bad tip.

I know in the past, this was a Superstock thing. I asked.
However, since about a year ago, they allowed some of the bump steer kits for late Camaro/Firebirds that were not previously allowed, maybe. It would be much better than the factory stuff. I would think that if you emailed Pat Cvegnos and see if he would put it on the approved list, it would be the best. I remember some manufacturers that had "preapproved" items from NHRA with a NHRA tech person's approval letter. They could only use the letter for toilet paper later. I would rather see it as an addemdum to the approved list or in the on line rule book revision before I would try it. Just my opinion of course. I have had good luck with Pat Cvegnos replying to inquiries in the past.

I'm hoping at least in SuperStock. If the tie rods are heims then why not strut rods? I may try my Div tech rep. for confirmation.

Get it from Glendora, in writing, at least from Cvengros, if not from Bachelder or Gracia. Even the division tech director will tell you to do that.

Moneymaker Racing has a fix for the strut rods. Spherical bearings in place of the bushings and it is legal.
give him a call.
