How much ratio split between 1st & 2nd gear is the best?

There are a bucket of variables and options ( At least on our Pro Trans ). Can you share some information on your combination.

Glen, depends on the cam lobe centre, duration, shift point. With my combo if I hold it in first gear to long it will lose a tenth. John gsa 612

I would think the wider your powerband between peak tq and hp the more split
you could tolerate, with that being said its still some trial and error as some cars fall back more on the shift than others. converter, rear gears and weight all come into play but i think your big block may tolerate more split than a low tq small block.

We currently have two E/SA cars.....71 Dart 340/314 and
73 Plymouth 440/345. Both have very aggressive cams in duration @ .050 (265+) and very close lobe center (106). I do not know what is normal because we march to beat of our own drum around here. As different as they are they both like 2.75 low and being short shifted out of low ( 400 - 500 below 2 - 3 shift. Hopes this helps. |
