Thumbs up Luciano finally seals the deal at the "Pig Roast"

Cecil County Dragway, August 14th & 15th - The Mid Atlantic Super Gas Association once again was bitten by the rain bug on Sunday but, not before Pete "Lucky" Luciano finally sealed the deal and won a race on Saturday. Twenty-Five Cars made the trip to the Rising Sun, Md facility and after 2 quick Qualifying shots it was Matt Schurman claiming the R&J Control #1 Qualifying award. Following Schurman was Luciano, Larry Edwards, Delaney Richardson and Tom Goldman. Lucky started his march towards the finals with a 1st round victory over Rob Keister, Mike Lauria and a Bye-Run in the 3rd to match up against Derek Clarke in the semi's. Clarke was appearing in his 3rd semi-final of the year and was hungry to get the monkey off his back and get to that first final round but, Luciano had other plans. In a close battle Luciano's slight hole-shot advantage (.016 to .027) was the key to victory as both drivers ran 9.914's. On the other side of the ladder was John Martin and his Corvette. For Martin this was his 1st time out all year with the S/G car as he's been bracket and super comp racing in his dragster. Martin started his day off with victories over Dave Burket, Edwards and Don Knoblick to meet up with Tom Goldman's 58 Corvette in the semi's. As the 2 drivers lined up it was Martin who got the slight advantage (.026 to .035) at the start and forced Goldman to run under the 9.90 index with a 9.894 to Martin's winning 9.928. So the finals were set as Luciano, who claimed his 1st round victory of the year earlier in the day and Martin who was testing for the Divisional race the following weekend at Cecil. At the Flash of Tree Martin took a .010 to .017 advantage over Luciano but, as they traveled down the track Lucky found himself back in control and forced Martin to break out 9.893 to Lucky's winning 9.910. Don Knoblick won the "Rockaway Racing" best package award with his 1st round victory. On Sunday as was the story at Maple Grove and Numidia the weather man was not on our side and after 1 qualifying shot brought the rain and forced Lucky to pull the plug again. The next race on the schedule is at Royce Miller's Maryland International Raceway in Southern Maryland on September 25th & 26th for the "IHRA vs NHRA Shootout". Details to follow but, this should be a great race for anyone who run's Super Gas or Super Rod in Division 1 or 2.
