Default Mufflers

Looking to run mufflers and I see the type that bolt right to the collector with a turn down. Can't find anything in Jeggs and only one brand in Summit, from a company called Car Chemistry. Anyone know another brand or recommend a brand.. I am running a 3" system with a X pipe back to two single chamber Flowmasters that end just before the rear axle.. looking to save a little weight by losing the exhaust system.

Why are you asking about mufflers on a stock and super stock web site?

Well I too couldn't find what you are looking for for my 70 challenger that was affordable and not a cherry bomb muffler. You could do what I did, Just put the turndown piece on the outlet of your muffler and run as short a pipe in the front as practical. Of course you allready know that what you loose in weight, you may give up in ET if you have it optimally tuned now. You may be tweaking (the length) it for a while. Single stage flowmasters are used by most in IHRA pure stock so you should be good there.

If you don't need an exhaust at all, look into the header inserts they qualify as "mufflers"

My car picked up MPH and ET with the mufflers......dynomax street legal round 3.5 mated to the 3.5 outlet from the headers.

Wink Re: Mufflers

GTO/GN,,,, Sorry for the ball busting on here that some of these guys do. Its a simple question thats being asked,,so give the guy a break.
What I did on my car, which has a 3" collector also, was that I picked up a pair of the Flowmaster round race mufflers as seen in the Jegs catalog. I had header extentions already on the car,,so I unbolted them, and the mufflers slid right in and we welded a bead around them. So far,,so good. They don't really quiet it down a whole lot, but I complied with our local track which asked us to do this. The car didn't slow down either.
No,,its not a stocker,,,so don't fry me either, guys.
Take care,,good luck,,,,,,Danny Durham
