I have a 1972 Chevelle I/SA with a 350 c.i. engine and a turbo 350 trans. The car idles around 1500-1600 rpm in park/neutral but when I put it in gear it drops WAY down to between 900-1000 rpm. I am wondering what would cause this because it is driving me crazy. I know that most stockers only drop 200-300 rpm when they go from park/neutral into gear. Thank you for your help.

Every time I've seen that happen, it's ended up being a vacuum leak...one time it was the wrong gasket between the throttle plate and carb body, one time a bad PCV valve, another time worn out throttle shaft bushings, etc., but all vacuum leaks just the same.
