Default 350 Turbo Issues...

350 Turbo with Pro Brake. Just installed new tranny and button, I know the button works properly because I have to push it in order to go into reverse. I pull the shifter (Reverse Pattern) back into low gear up on jack stands and let it roll and works just fine, same with 2nd gear, when I pull it down to 3rd it makes about 5 revs then locks up. The transbrake button will not hold the car either, Press the brake push the button let off the brake and the car rolls.....Any ideas?

Who's valvebody ? .....Some bodies do not come with the manual valve and require you to modify your original valve . ....some also require modifications to the modulator valve .......we need more info. ......Tom

Cool Re: 350 Turbo Issues...

I had a buddy with the Hipster brake in a TH350 and his car would roll also. He called them up and was told he had to "energize" the trans brake as he rolled in to stage. It seemed to work, but took a while for him to get used to it. He since then has gone to a PG (Hughes) and has been fine. I run a Coan 'glide and my brake is instantaneous and the car won't roll.

My tranny man has torn into it, it is a Hipsters Brake. Said that one of the balls were missing in the valve body, I am an idiot when it comes to tranny's so I am asking you....Could this be the problem??

Sounds like it could be . .....The check ball is usually in a passage that blocks/ redirects fluid flow ,to the rev. clutches and direct clutches ,depending on the manual valve position......I've probably got instructions filed away for a Hipster 350 vb if you dont have them. ..Tom

Could you explain what you mean by energize? Do you mean keep the engine rev'd before applying the brake?

By energize, they mean for you to set the brake momentariarly before staging. ....Three speed trans brakes use a lot of fluid volume when they are actuated . ...By energizing the brake momentariarly You are in effect pre charging the clutches for the actual setting of the brake when staged.......Tom

Wink Re: 350 Turbo Issues...

Tom,, you said it perfectly. From a drivers' standpoint, its just a little added part of your staging procedure. You'll get it after a couple tries.
By the way,,,Tom I was going through some of my old Super Stock magazines today and came across "your issue". Thats was really quite the article they did on you and the Willys.I admit, I really miss that magazine. Heck,,,I only got 2 pages from Popular Hot Rodding in June 93' with my old 55 Bel-Air. Take care,,Danny Durham

Thanks Danny. ....Steve Collison was the greatest. ..He did a fantastic article on the car ,and actually took a lot of flack at first from his publisher because the car was un stickered and un lettered. .......I ran a TH400 back then ,so I'm real familiar with staging a 3 speed on a Pro Tree.........Tom

Ok so, we tried the whole "energizing" trick and that did not work. When I engage the transbrake it holds me until I hit exactly 2000 RPM then it just lunges forward kind of like if I were foot braking the car and gave it to much gas. I am about to give up, it shouldn't be this difficult. This is a buddies car luckily I have a 400 turbo, but I just don't understand why so many issues with this 350. opinions, or suggestions are always welcome...
