Ok well, being cheap (yeah Im cheap) on the alternator is a pain, these coils (all 8 of em) are eating the power
Draw and charge concern me, I plan on "topping" off after every round but our logs show us the car is sucking all the juice from the 50 amp nipensendo unit it can make. So, since I made 3123 with the car I am a little leary of adding another battery (I still need to drop 75 lbs or so from the car) and well..... But at the same time spending $430 on a powermaster 150 dosent seem great if its going to slow me down more than the weight. Just looking for opinions here on both a good choice (my bracket are already setup for the denso/nippensendo mini type) but people rework them. And I never want to slow the car down by "pulling" to much alternator side. Is a second battery or a better alternator the way to go for the amps ? |

Look at East Coast Alternators. I have had one in my car for the last six years with no problems at all. One wire set up as well. Great products for the money and they are great to talk to on the phone.

Art,
Do you mean that with the alt "on" it slowed you down due to the drag? Or do you mean that with the alt "off" you slowed down due to not providing enough voltage for your computer, fuel etc? Robert |

Alt off slowed car. And thats shutting it off just before staging, so the battery was fully charged.

If you are running fuel injection buy the higher amp East Coast alternator and be done with it. This is one place you do not want to go cheap.

The Powermaster has a 150 amp mini, same case, adjustable voltage. I am wondering Art if you were having amp issues as well to the coils ever figure out why you were slower ? |

Give the keyboard a rest and call John or Chuck at East Coast Auto Electric. ....They are some of the most knowlegable guys you can talk to about this, and they are racers who are doing it themselves .........570-457-0553.......................Tom

I believe it is the dwell to the coils. I run 4 LS1 Coils. But I draw a lot of amps from everything else. I have a Mezeire water pump, a Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump (overkill) and a high draw electric fan (don't usually race with this on )
