Looking for some help on what to do to a dual plane intake to make it better. I have to use the dual plane and can not use a single plane. I know there has to be some kind of tricks to make it faster. It is on a bbc. Any help would be appreciated.

Alan, it is on a drag race car. I guess I am looking for some more rpm's and better flow. The car is 3300# and a low comp.bbc. Thanx

A phenolic spacer. Or cutting down center divider or massaging it .

I figured that. But what intake, on how big an engine, with what carburetor, and how tight are you twisting it? What are you allowed to do?

Alan, it is on a 502 ci. crate engine that is .060 over. It has a 207 Q-jet and I am turning it about 6400 to 6800 rpms. I can do anything to the intake. The intake is the one that comes on the 502 crate engine but the one for the spread bore carb.The intake and heads are oval ports.

Tim is correct, you can remove at least part of the center divider. However, if what you have is 12363420, it is probably real close, if not the same manifold, as an Edelbrock Performer RPM oval port. The divider is already pretty low, you may not gain much, because there is little if any to be gained by removing more divider. There is a version that is the same manifold, except it is CNC matched to the heads you run. You might also try various spacers if they are legal. Those castings are usually pretty clean, and the plenum is usually pretty good as well. The best gains other than a spacer are usually had with getting the fit and alignment as close to perfect as you can, and then working on getting the mixture distribution worked out.

With that big of a motor and at that RPM, that's quite a bit of airflow.A dual plane intake is for low RPM production of torque.That's why everybody used them.Open up that intake as much as possible in the plenum area,remove as much divider as possible, remember, the 207 QJet isn't an enormous carb(my 8.5:1 327 stocker motor uses one),so do what you have to to enhance airflow.I would rethink that rpm limit if I were you.This is a torque motor,not a comp eliminator powerplant. Excessive RPM doesn't enhance longevity.
