I am new to this and was looking for some advice. I have 68 Dodge Dart Swinger (340) that I would like to run in SS. It appears to me it should be in SS/JA with an 11.30 index. It appears one needs to run 10.50 or better to be some what competetive. For a car that weighs 3170 lbs that works out to 573 hp at the back of the motor.
Am I on the right track? Is this combination even doable? Thanks |

Are you sure it's a '68 as they didn't start building the Swinger model until the '69 model year. Some folks think all two door hardtop Darts are Swingers, but they aren't. In '68 it would have to be a GTS to be a 340 car.
To answer your question, or at least part of it, I'm considering building a '69 340 Swinger for stock eliminator and in conversations with Chuck Beach, who runs a '69 340 Barracuda stocker, I've learned that the AVS carb is the bottleneck in the 340 combo for that year and that no one runs one successfully in super stock because the carb would be even more of an issue in power production. Having said that, if there is anyone who can make an AVS work it is Chuck. The '68 GTS 340 has a factor of 11.62 which is SS/JA minimum weight 3091 + 170 =3261 or you can take weight out and run SS/IA or add weight for SS/KA. The '69 Swinger 340 fits J also, down for I, up for K. |

Thank you for the reply. You are correct it is a 69 Dodge Dart Swinger. That was my dream of an AH car getting in the way of my reality.
This car is back halfed and has run 11.60's in both Fontana and Milan with a somewhat unknown combination (I have been using it but did not build it). Car would need to run J or K as there is no front hoop only a bar. Do you have a number or email to reach Chuck? Bob |

I actually contacted Chuck here on this site. I searched for him and sent a PM. I haven't had to send him a carb yet so I don't have his phone #. He has some insight into the heads for the '69 combo as well.

I run a AVS in SS/JA on a 383 Dart, it isn't a record setter but I have gone 10.48 on a 11.30 index. These carbs are a challenge to get set up right. Steve Wann also runs one on his SS car and it is a record setter!!!

I took the liberty of looking your car up on Auto Imagery. Wow looks great and appears to leave hard. Who does the Carb for you? Can you share the rear tire size and the gear ratio? I assume you are using a 727 trany. |
