Ok, just a quick question. Im in the planning stages of a new stocker engine (bbc) and noticed the accepted list has both I and H beam rods. I thought chevrolet used only I beams in production. So how how is an H beam a valid replacement? Not complaining just curious.

Since NHRA allows aftermarket rods, the configuration of the replacement is of little consequence. As long as the specifications and weight are in line with NHRA tech they could be swiss-cheese. You'll find differing opinions on the H-Beam vs I-Beam but I've always bought I-beam.

Thanks for the response. I hadn't thought of it that way.

John,
I think what Jeff said does have some merit, but you need to be careful. I seem to remember some posts on this or another forum about a couple of guys being tossed for infractions in the piston/ rod area. If my memory serves me correct one was for claiming rods that weren't marked, etched or inkstamped, with the brand. The other was for pistons that didn't have all or the correct number stamping/etching.. I think you have to have the correct/approved aftermarket rod if you are not running a stock rod, even if the weight is correct. I'm real sure in a stocker the pistons have to be the original stock pistons or the correct part number from the approved list for the engine claimed. These are just my thoughts on the subject and the way I read the rules. You might want to call or get in touch with your NHRA Division Tech and have a discussion.
