www.nhra.com/competition/classification.aspx
Find the car and year and it will show all engines legal for the combination, it will tell you the factory hp and the nhra re-factored hp for both stock and super stock.

another consideration, the smaller the engine, the less efficient the heads & intake, the more the combination will be affected by changing conditions.

there are pros and cons to all combonations,it depends on what make and model you like ,,,or maybe you dont mind what it is ,if thats the case the chevys come to mind, there are alot of these cars that run and the wealth of info is end less, how fast do you want to go?? any one on here will tell you can pick up a done car much cheaper than you can build it ,,,but if you want to get your hands in it and then it mite pay to build it your self if you have the resources ,,this way you know exactly what you have and as you make changes you can see what direction you need to head in,,,dont know what your budget is but i know of a stocker for sale, here on the east coast here for a very reasonable price (chevy malibu k/sa) 2 dr nice car as well gmonde

EJB40, It is amazing how fast the guys in stock and super stock eliminator can make the various engines they use run isn't it? It is truly a tribute to American enginuity and workmanship.
My suggestion to you is do your homework before you buy a car. This forum is a good source of information. Go to the track and talk to the guys with the different engine/car combinations. Most of the guys will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have about their particular combinations. But my point is ask a lot of questions, an informed decision will be a good one. Also, put yourself together a budget regarding what you want to spend on a car. Then double that figure because I don't car how hard you try, you will never live within that budget LOL. Good Luck in your search and welcome to the Class Racer Forum.

I just finished my stocker, it is a 85 Olds Cutlass with a 307 Olds motor. This project took a little longer than I had estimated, I picked the car up in Feb of 06 and went down the track for the first time in June of 09. I have been having problems here and there but been working them out with a lot of help from this forum. This past weekend I made progress, at legal weight for J/SA I went a 12.52 off the 12.75 index not real fast but under the index. I tuned the car a little and my last two runs were a12.42 and a12.41 at 105mph. I was a happy camper I went 34 under my index. The track sucked it was 98 degrees and the alt was 5200ft. But I had fun lots of fun. So EJB40 do your home work get a game plan going and go have some fun.
