Default Head Gaskets

I am changing my sbc from Dart Iron Eagles to Edelbrock Victor Jr aluminum heads. My question is can I run a steel shim with the aluminum heads ? I need the thinner gaskets to retain compression. Thanks for your replys.

From my experience you will never get a good cooling water seal with copper or steel head gaskets.
The aluminum heads grow and move around to much during heating and cool down. I tried many different sealants on them without any good results. They just leak.
I went to the thin Felpro head gasket. I think it was .039 thick which is the thinest I could find.
My 2 Cents

Check Cometic gaskets, they seal very well.
