Does anyone have a specific procedure for break in on a cast cam that has been nitrided and
using tool steel lifters? i have asked a lot of people and got lots of different answers, just wondering if anyone has had hands on experience with this set up? answers i have got are to run it with a set of shubecks for 15-20 minutes then run the tool steel lifters full pressure, just put it together and run full pressure and not worry, break in the old way light pressure 20 min then put the heavy springs to it, and to polish the cam with scotchbrite or fine sandpaper approx 1500 grit and then go thru the old process of light then heavy springs. input greatly appreciated.. |

I would say break it in the old fashioned way.Or call the company that coated the parts and ask them.

no secret here,,,,i have seen cams fail due to way to much sping presure, walmart oil, just the wrong lifter choice,,,my suggestion would be start with a set of break in springs(low tension) run high idle 2000 rpm when it hits 190 degrees shut it down let it cool back to160 refire, bring it back to 190 degrees , use good oil,joe gibbs or any oil that have the extra zinc ,it wouldnt hurt to throw in a breakin lube ,comp cams has a additive that works good used it several times, put the heavy springs to it and have fun
