competition license

I am new to this sight and super stock racing ,But i have been checking this sight regularlly and now i am trying to enter one of the division race's and have a question.The question is about the competition license and competition number i have a car that fits into the ss/bx class but it only runs so far at best 10.30@129 can anybody tell me if i need a competition license to run this car in that class (meaning a license that is 9.99 and under)even if the car does not run in the nine's.I have sent the division director a e-mail about that question but he could not answer it he told me someone else would get back to me and they never have,so i thought i would ask the racers.

2008 NHRA Rulebook, page 174:

"Valid NHRA Competition License mandatory in AX, BX, and DX. See General Regulations 10:4."

Boy, this is the only reason i have not ran this car in super stock class is this license deal.I had a super stock racer tell me that i could run this in ss/bx without having a under 9.99 license just a competition license because the car does not run under 9.99.And i was at the local track one weekend and a stocker racer was making some license passes to run his c/sa car in super stock,but he said he only needed to run 11.0's to run in ss/ga so i am really confused.I would think if my car does not run in the 9.99's that i should be able to run it in ss/bx with out having a under 9.99 license.

Don't confuse the terms "Competition License" and "Competition Number". You've been given some questionable information. In the end, no response is less damaging than wrong information.

You may wish to download the requirements and forms for a Competition License from the NHRA website. To have a Competition Number, all you need is a valid driver's license for your state of residence. That step allows you to run in brackets slower than 10.00, Stock Eliminator (except AA/S and AA/SA) and some Super Stock classes that usually run slower than 10.00. SS/BX is not one of the classes for which you have an option. Drivers of SS/BX cars are required to have a Competition License. Look beneath the pull-down menu for "Rules." The directions on that page are self-explanatory.

Basically, you will need a physical examination that corresponds to that required to be granted a commercial driver's license (CDL). If you're over 55 you will need the printout of your EKG attached to the application. Also, to be licensed, you need to demonstrate that you know your way around your own car and make a specified number runs under the supervision of officials and other drivers to prove that you have a clue about what you're doing.

Ok that's what i thought that why it is good to ask questions on this sight.I just really did not want to run my car in ss/cx due to the amount of weight i needed to add.

For SS/BX you have to have a Competition license. like Super gas. You also need a competition number. You have to have a physical & make the requiered passes for the license. Must have physical before making passes. You have to have the license even if your car is a 10:30 car in SS/BX. If you want to weight the car down & run SS/CX you can do so with just a NHRA membership & competition number. If the car fits the SS/DS class you can run it with only a membership & Competition number. I know because that is what I've been allowed to do. I've held the SS/CX & SS/DS records several times (even busted the SS/DS index) without a Competition license. It is all stated in the rule book.

When you download the medical physical form, notice there is a section for vision included along with the other required information. If your eyes are normal the physician can fill this portion in with the rest of the form. If your eyes are corrected, as mine are, you will need to see your optometrist to have that part filled in. Both doctors need to sign and include their license numbers. NHRA will reject your form if the physician fills in the vision area and you have corrected vision. I found this out my first time. Jesse
