Hey guys. I'm looking for some input on a couple of proposed changes. Here's a rundown of my combo:
BB Chevy 4.375 x 4.000 481" 12.50:1 CR 6.135 rods 990 heads with 2.25/1.88 11/32" valves bowls blended, short side radius reworked, and chamber unshrouded flow numbers are for #6 port (bad port) & no pipe on exhaust .100 72/59 .200 143/113 .300 215/139 .400 261/165 .500 290/186 .600 306/204 .700 323/213 .800 333/216 Howards solid roller 7/4 swap ADV 314/322 050 276/287 200 187/196 110 LSA/109 int CL lobe lift .439/.430 valve lift .790/.731 rockers 1.8/1.7 Weiand 4150 Team G with 2" 4500 adapter opened up on 4150 side(still has some venturi) #9375 1050cfm Dominator (stock non HP style) intake has no port work to plenum or runners Hooker Super Comp headers for G-body 2" x 30" primary 3 1/2" x 10" collector w/ 12" ext open headers The engine is in a 84 Regal that weighs 3350# w/ driver. It has stock style bolt on suspension and 29.5" x 10.5" slicks. Trans is a Glide w/ a brake. The converter is a BTE 8" C100+. It goes 5400 against the brake. I don't know flash or shift recovery RPM. Rear gear is a 4.30 . To date the car has had a best 60' of 1.44 on a good hooking track. The best time has been 6.65/105.1 with a spinning 1.54 60'(POS track). I'm thinking of trying a 4.86 gear and maybe having a new converter built. What are your opinions. |

If your going to run just 1/8th mile I would go with a 5.13/5.14. as for the converter...I would call ATI & ask them. I have been running ATI's stuff for 10 years & it just works! P.S. do ya have any room for a bigger tire? like maybe a 30x10.5 Hoosier radial? or a 29.5x11.5?? oh P.S.S. what low gear is in the glide? if it's a 1.76 you can pick up some GOOD E.T. by going with a 1.98 or 2.08... my old stocker picked-up .15 going from a 1.82 to a 2.08 no other change.

You trying to bracket race or go fast?
You need work on the suspension/tire combination, you have the HP to run 105, should be leaving at mid 1.3's and going 6.40's - 6.50 . I've had 29.5-10.5's on my ride but it works better on 9" tires, since I can't fit a wider rim. Lots of cam and carburetor on it. Are you using a two-step? What are the suspension specs? |

Somethings definately wrong with the car if you look at the parts used vs the current performance.
I run a 3400 lb 79 Malibu with a 461 bbc , naturally aspirated. Engine has 13 to 1 compression, 269/276 @ .050, .738"/.710 roller, 1000HP 4150 Holley, th400 with a 6000 rpm flash converter, 4.33 gear and a 28" tall tire. Launched off the footbrake anywhere from 2000-3000 rpm, shifts made at 7500 rpm, turning 7700 rpm at the stripe. Typical ET's are 9.50's @ 140 mph, 60's in the high 1/2x to low 1.3x. As good brought up, large carb, big cam both want rpm to get working. Then a glide which is gonna be soft off the line unless you give it alot of rear gear and alot more stall. If you want to compare notes, my e-mail is geislert@qis.net. good luck Todd |
